Charity Cheque Presentation

20 April 2023

The Bridge Youth Project received a cheque of £1028.00 from Braemar Lodge.

The funds were raised through various fundraising activities such as handmade presents, produce and clothes swap sales, garden parties, raffles, and Christmas markets.

Neville, a beloved resident of Braemar Lodge, and Gaye Ridout founded The Bridge Youth Project in 1994. Neville proposed that the Home sponsor the charity for 2022. There are several connections between the Home and The Bridge Youth Project, including Gaye being the mother of Sarah Ridout, the gardener at the Home. Yvonne Ballard, the wife of one of the Home’s staff members, volunteered at The Bridge, and the Home’s Director has known Alex Ewing, The Bridge’s Director, for many years.

During the cheque presentation, Daphne, Neville’s widow, and Gaye and her husband Tom were in attendance. Jackie Cash presented the cheque to Alex Ewing, and during the event, Alex and Gladys Nyirongo, a Year 10 student from Sarum Academy School, spoke about the incredible amount of money raised by the Home. They expressed their gratitude and explained the significant impact the funds will have, particularly in supporting local schools and funding the mentoring aspect to support children after the Covid lockdowns.

Afterwards, everyone enjoyed light refreshments, and Alex and Gladys spoke with some of the Home’s residents, including some who are over 100 years old.
