International Yoga Day
For the last 18 months, we have had a Yoga teacher attending Braemar Lodge once a month for a session of Chair Yoga.
Our teacher Sandi came the day before International Yoga Day, so we took the opportunity, before beginning the session, to ask her about the origins of yoga. She took us through a whistlestop tour of 5000 years of yoga, which began in India as a philosophical and spiritual practice.
Sandi continued to give information on some of the different branches of yoga, ending with sharing that what she offers residents here is based on Hatha yoga – breathing, relaxation and connection with our true self as a way of harmonising the body, mind, breath and heart. Residents then participated in a range of movement, breath and chanting exercises, always at their own pace, with gentle accompanying music.
A beautiful session, and we are very grateful for all that Sandi brings to our residents each month.
