Poetry Power

With lots of literary fans in our home, National Poetry Day was a big occasion at Braemar. 

Our regular poetry sessions are much loved, and residents particularly enjoyed sharing their favourite poets and poems (some self-penned!) last week, in honour of the big day. 

This week, we decided we would study a painting for inspiration. Residents picked ‘A Promenade’ by Fritz Paulsen and brought their thoughts of what they noticed and a potential narrative. We then began to form this into a poem. But, these ideas were so rich and full that time ran out! So, Ula suggested everyone take a copy of the painting and continue their masterpieces. 

Ula shared her poem the following day, much to our delight. Afterwards, we read some Shakespeare… though we don’t think he’s got much on Ula!
