Teddy bears’ picnic brings joy to local care home

4 June 2025

Residents at Colten Care’s West Moors home, Brook View, were joined by visiting children this week for a teddy bears’ picnic — an event designed to encourage intergenerational connection through shared activities.

Despite poor weather, the event went ahead with the fun moving indoors, and children bringing their favourite teddy bears to take part in singing and games alongside the residents.

Diana Pearce, a resident, said she thoroughly enjoyed the morning: “It was such a lovely time. I had so much fun singing with the children.” Fellow resident Barbara Phillips added, “It reminded me of my great-grandchildren. I really enjoyed watching them play and being part of it.”

The event included group singing, led by the children, which saw many residents joining in. Staff said the morning created a positive and energetic atmosphere throughout the home.

Claudia Canosa, Companionship Team Leader, said: “Activities like this are a valuable part of life here. They bring energy into the home, help residents connect with others, and spark memories that are meaningful and uplifting.”

The event forms part of the home’s wider approach to community involvement and resident wellbeing, with regular opportunities for social interaction and reminiscence.
