Colten Care Retains Top 20 Place

27 February 2026

Colten Care has reconfirmed its status as a leading ‘mid-size large’ provider, the category for those with 13 to 24 homes, on the public review site Carehome.co.uk.

It’s presence in the top rank for an eleventh year follows 2,217 independent ratings by residents, families and community contacts, 226 of which were posted in the past twelve months.

Operating in Hampshire, Dorset, Wiltshire and West Sussex, Colten Care has 21 care homes, seven of which are rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission.

Among four homes with the maximum ten-out-of-ten score on Carehome.co.uk are Newstone House in Sturminster Newton and Bourne View in Poole.

A recent review of Bourne View, by Karl, whose mother is a resident, reads: “The care home gives her safety and security and enables her to be as independent as she can be. She is so well looked after, thanks to the quality of the people and the quality of the environment.”

At Newstone House, another relative, C.W, writes: “My mother is being looked after with immense kindness and expertise. Staff are unfailingly cheerful and professional and always have time for her, giving her exceptional care.”

Mark Aitchison, Colten Care’s Chief Executive, described Carehome.co.uk ratings as a ‘powerful validation’ since they are entirely based on independent public reviews.

“Maintaining a leading group score for an eleventh year, with four homes achieving a full 10/10, underlines our claim to be the highest-rated care home group of our scale in the UK.

“It’s an especially noteworthy achievement because all 21 of our homes provide nursing care, and four offer specialist dementia services supported by Admiral Nurse input. Expert, professional nursing is a cornerstone of our care philosophy.”

Elaine Farrer, Chief Operating Officer and a registered nurse, said the results coincide with a growing national focus on later-life planning.

Elaine said: “As the population aged 80 and above continues to rise, particularly in the kind of rural and coastal regions where we operate, the demand for skilled nursing support is intensifying. With advancing age comes greater frailty and complex medical need, making access to dedicated nursing provision ever more essential.”

As well as Newstone House and Bourne View, Colten Care’s Dorset homes are The Aldbury and Canford Chase in Poole, Castle View in Poundbury, Avon Reach in Mudeford, Abbey View in Sherborne, Avon Cliff in Bournemouth, Whitecliffe House in Blandford, Amberwood House in Ferndown, Fernhill in Longham and Brook View in West Moors.
