Submarine Day Brings Music and Laughter

Residents and staff at Canford Chase enjoyed an imaginative National Submarine Day, with the home transformed for a series of themed activities inspired by life beneath the waves.

The day began with a creative underwater-style photoshoot, featuring a handmade yellow submarine and a selection of ocean-themed props. Residents and staff took part together, posing and engaging with the display as the space was reimagined into a colourful seascape.

An interactive submarine skit followed, inviting residents to take part in simple actions as the group “travelled” beneath the ocean. The activity encouraged participation at all levels, with laughter shared throughout as residents joined in the experience.

Music played a central role across the day, with sea shanties filling the home and encouraging movement, rhythm and light-hearted interaction.

In the afternoon, residents gathered for a singalong session with lyrics displayed for all to follow. Well-known songs including Yellow Submarine and Octopus’s Garden were performed with the support of staff, some adding percussion with tambourines to build atmosphere and rhythm.

One resident commented on how supported and included they felt during the day, while visiting relatives described the atmosphere as uplifting and engaging throughout.

Companion Team Leader Vicky said: “It was wonderful to see everyone getting involved in their own way. The theme created so many opportunities for interaction, and the enjoyment was shared across residents, families and staff.”
