Ben’s Wish Comes True with Farm Visit

29 April 2026

A lifelong love of horses inspired a special day out for Canford Chase resident Ben, whose wish to spend time with the animals was recently fulfilled with a visit to the Heavy Horse Farm in Verwood.

Ben has spoken often about his interest in horses, whether spotting them on trips to the New Forest or admiring equestrian artwork around the home. His passion began in childhood when he helped on a farm and spent time watching foals grow and develop.

During conversations with the companionship team, Ben shared how much he would like to visit horses again. With its collection of shire horses, ponies, donkeys and other animals, the Heavy Horse Farm proved the perfect destination.

Throughout the visit, Ben spent time meeting the animals, hand-feeding them and chatting quietly to each one. His enthusiasm was evident as he made his way around the farm, sharing memories of his earlier experiences with horses and recalling visits to the races.

Companion Team Leader Vicky said: “Ben often talks about horses and the role they have played throughout his life. Being able to arrange a visit that connected him with those memories was really rewarding. It was lovely to see the enjoyment the day brought him.”

Ben particularly enjoyed spending time with the farm’s shire horses, often referred to as gentle giants because of their size and calm nature.

Reflecting on the outing, Ben said it was a day filled with happy memories and that he appreciated how gentle the animals were when accepting feed.
