Baking Fruit Cake

Despite the shining sun, the wind continued to blow strongly.
So, we decided to come together and bake a fruit cake. “Fruit cake is one of my favourites!” exclaimed Margaret with excitement. Her playful remark, “I’ll help to make sure I get a slice,” brought laughter to all of us.
Marian thoroughly enjoyed mixing the flour with the aromatic spices, relishing the delightful fragrance that filled the air. Barbara skilfully combined the dried fruits with fresh lemon and orange juice, along with a touch of orange zest. Margaret took charge of blending the brown sugar and oil, which sparked an engaging conversation about the use of oil instead of butter. We realised that this substitution would allow those among us who cannot consume dairy products to enjoy a slice of the cake.
Together, we combined all the ingredients, finding that the mixing required a bit of extra effort. Fortunately, Jess kindly offered her assistance. The ladies expressed their joy in baking together, noting that learning new techniques and recipes brought back treasured memories from their younger days.
