Celebrating St David’s Day
To celebrate St David’s Day, we decided to make Welsh cakes to honour Saint David, the patron saint of Wales.
Welsh cakes are also known as bakestones or pics and have been a traditional sweet bread popular since the late 19th century. They are often enjoyed with jam and cream, similar to classic scones. Jess shared her story of making Welsh cakes when she was younger and provided us with helpful tips to make the best possible version.
As Barbara Harris added the mixed spice, she sang along while giving it a good shake. “I’m looking forward to tasting them as I’ve never made or even tried them before!” exclaimed Barbara Rivett. She couldn’t believe how easy they were to make and how delicious they tasted, especially when enjoyed with a cup of tea.
