Cook’s Corner

16 March 2023

Today we enjoyed a lovely cooking session with the residents helping to make chocolate chip cookies.

The ladies and gentlemen looked the part with their aprons on and gloves on ready to join in taking turns in adding an ingredient and then mixing it in the bowl.

Jess gave tips on how best to melt the butter in the bowl for everyone to see, while I assisted in reading with the resident’s step by step on how to perfect the cookie dough, once it was all done, we took it in turns to roll the dough into a ball and then placed on the tray.

We asked the ladies if they enjoyed baking in their own kitchens and reminisced about the different variety of cakes and puddings they made like Apple pie, Lemon Cake, and Victoria sponge. Two of our residents tried to eat the chocolate chips as a taste test but found they didn’t quite melt in the mouth straight away and that they weren’t as chocolaty as one thought they might be. Everybody involved enjoyed the session and couldn’t wait for them to be baked.

When afternoon tea came along the residents relaxed and really enjoyed the cookies and a cup of tea together. The overall opinion was ‘Delicious!’
