Pumpkins Galore

Halloween is fast approaching we got to work on some more spooky crafts and raise money for our chosen Charity Amelia’s Rainbow.

The first pumpkin activity we gave a go was plushie pumpkins to sell for charity.  Finding the softest fabric which was like a soft teddy bear, we looked around for a circular shape to trace our base design. Once all circles were cut out, we then started to form our pumpkins. A simple running stitch along the outer edge to gather the circle is the crucial step to form the pumpkin. We gathered the stitches a little and added rice to the bottom, next we stuffed the pumpkin to give it the shape. Gathering the top of the circle and tying the cotton together gives the finished base. The final step is to add some leaves or curly top. After a heated debate to which looks better, a curly top made from a pipe cleaner was the chosen final part. Barbara said “Sewing and making items brings back many memories or previous projects I have done” Barbara spoke of making and mending many clothing items and costumes over the years. The Plushie pumpkins were a hit with visitors and staff alike.
