Food and drink are critical to our well-being in so many ways. Our diet should be wholesome, nutritious and well-balanced, as well as a pleasure in itself.
All the meals in our homes are created according to a ‘handpicked’ philosophy guided by three key principles: homemade recipes developed around residents’ preferences; handpicked suppliers chosen for their quality and taste; and staff handpicked for their dedication and passion for both care and food.
Our chefs are selected for their experience, skill and imagination. All are qualified to NVQ level three but also, they have received considerable internal training to help them to maintain the very high standards set by Colten Care. Each has the freedom to develop recipes he or she will cook daily and each enjoys working with residents, listening to their preferences and discussing ideas.
Our catering teams use only the best quality ingredients, sourcing them wherever possible from local suppliers.
Three homemade meals are prepared every day along with elevenses, pre-lunch wine and sherry specially selected by our wine merchant, Berry Brothers & Rudd. A glass of locally brewed real ale, afternoon tea with homemade cakes and a nightcap also come as standard. Coffee, tea, biscuits, fresh fruit, homemade soup and snacks are available 24 hours a day.
Residents can choose to enjoy their meals in the communal dining rooms, the privacy of their own room or with guests in a private dining room by prior appointment - for example on birthdays or other special occasions.
Reporting into the Hotel Services Manager are two Catering Managers who provide continual advice and support to all our our chefs, encouraging an exchange of best ideas from home to home as well as ensuring they are each appropriately resourced and supported for each meal they prepare. This management team always attend the regular residents and relatives meetings in the homes and use this feedback to help design the seasonally-changing menus.
