Castle View Helps Robert Revisit the Farm He Built

A resident at Castle View returned to the family farm where he spent decades working, after the home’s team fulfilled his wish to enjoy a picnic with his sons on International Picnic Day.

Robert, who has devoted much of his life to farming, was born at Kingston Farm on the South Dorset Chalk Downs before later establishing Longbarrow Farm at Long Bredy. Over the years, he built a mixed farming enterprise of cattle, sheep, pigs and crops alongside his wife Jill, raising two sons who now run the family business.

Although Robert stepped back from the day-to-day work in his seventies, his connection to the farm has never faded. He still enjoys driving past to see his sons at work, proudly watching them continue the family tradition.

To celebrate International Picnic Day, Castle View arranged for Robert to return to the farm for an afternoon with his sons. Sitting together with cups of tea and homemade treats, they enjoyed catching up while overlooking the land that has shaped their family’s lives for generations.

The visit gave Robert the chance to talk farming once again, hearing how the business is progressing and sharing stories from his years working the land.

Companion Team Leader Stacy said: “Robert often talks about the farm and the pride he feels in seeing his sons continue the work he started. Being able to spend time with them in such a familiar setting meant a great deal to him. It was a simple afternoon, but one filled with conversation, family and a lifetime of shared memories.”
