Residents from Castle View Care Home enjoyed a scenic and uplifting outing to Compton Valence, where snowdrops were in full bloom and a thoughtful surprise awaited.
Robert was joined by fellow residents Betty, Margaret, Peter and Violet for the minibus trip to the Dorset village, which for one week each year opens its village hall to the public to serve drinks, cakes and soup in support of the local church.
The annual event holds special significance for Robert, whose nieces, Tessa and Pippa, have helped there for many years. Their father and grandfather were also among those who originally planted many of the snowdrops that now carpet the village.

Unbeknown to Robert, the visit included a surprise stop inside the hall for tea and cake — served by Tessa and Pippa themselves. They warmly greeted Robert and the group, taking time between customers to sit and chat. The unexpected reunion brought visible delight, filling the afternoon with smiles and lively conversation.
Afterwards, the group continued their scenic drive through Compton Valence and on to Maiden Newton before returning to Castle View, taking in the winter landscape along the way.
Companionship Team Leader Hayley said, “It was a privilege to organise something so personal and meaningful. Seeing Robert’s reaction when he saw his nieces was truly special, and it made the whole outing memorable for everyone.”
