Former Ballerina Celebrates 101st Birthday with a Swan Lake Surprise

Residents and team members at Court Lodge in Lymington came together to celebrate a very special milestone for one of our longest-standing residents.

On her 101st birthday, Enid Docker was treated to a surprise performance from the Milton Academy of Dance, a touching nod to her remarkable past as a professional ballerina and ballet school owner.

Five teenage dancers arrived in graceful burgundy costumes and performed excerpts from Swan Lake, one of Enid’s all-time favourites. Watching their pirouettes and delicate steps brought back vivid memories of her own dancing days.

“Dancing has always been my passion,” Enid shared. “I couldn’t take my eyes off these young dancers, their performance was beautiful.”

Home Manager Rebecca Hannam said:

“We knew how much ballet means to Enid, and we’re so grateful to the Milton Academy of Dance for helping make her day so special. Swan Lake has a calming and uplifting effect for her, and to see her so engaged and happy was truly wonderful.”

Enid, who grew up in Yorkshire, spent many years performing before opening her own ballet school for young children. She has been part of the Court Lodge family for the past two years, where she continues to share her love of dance with others.

Her milestone follows another centenary celebration at the home just weeks earlier, when fellow resident Margaret Honeyman, aged 102, enjoyed a visit from members of the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry, the organisation she served in during World War Two.
