Sue Makes A Splash Once More

17 July 2026

A resident at Court Lodge has returned to swimming after several years away from the water, thanks to support from the team to help her regain the confidence and strength to revisit a lifelong passion.

For many years, Sue began every morning with a swim. More than a form of exercise, it was a treasured part of her daily routine that brought her enjoyment, confidence and a sense of wellbeing. Although she had been unable to swim in recent years, she often spoke fondly of those early mornings and hoped to one day return to the pool.

With that goal in mind, the team worked alongside Sue to help prepare her for the challenge. She took part in regular exercise classes and evening walks to build her fitness and confidence, with each step bringing her closer to getting back into the water.

When the day finally arrived, Sue visited Lymington Health and Leisure Centre for her first swim in years. After a short walk to the pool, she slipped back into the water with ease, soon swimming breaststroke, completing half lengths and enjoying time swimming on her back.

Companion Team Leader Julia said: “Sue worked incredibly hard towards this goal, and it was wonderful to see her back in the pool doing something she has always loved. Swimming has been such an important part of her life, and helping her reconnect with it has been rewarding for everyone involved.”

Reflecting on the experience, Sue was delighted to be swimming again and is already looking forward to making morning swims a regular part of her routine once more.
