Kayaking Around Antarctica

24 September 2024

Resident, John, sits in front of a TV. John wears a VR headset, while the TV shows a yellow kayak approaching an iceberg.

Residents at Court Lodge explored Antarctica this week!

We were transported by virtual reality googles which allowed us to kayak though ice-laden canyons and watch the waves, whales, and fish.

As a kayaker himself, resident John was able to steer the kayak masterfully around icebergs. He commented that the current was strong in places, meaning he got a good workout trying to paddle against it. His hard work paid off, however, and he spotted Emperor Penguins, seals, and orca whales.

“It was a great experience,” said Eileen.

“I really enjoyed that – it felt so real!” John added.

Virtual Reality Therapies uses technology to transport people to amazing places, which encourages exercise and creativity. We are hoping to travel across the globe again soon!
