Creating beautiful blossoms with broccoli art

11 May 2024

With the sun shining, we decided to sit on our roof terrace for today’s art activity, and became inspired with the beautiful field and trees before us.

“Look at all that blossom floating,” said June, which gave us the idea to paint our own. We used broccoli for paint brushes to create summer blossom on a tree.

This was great fun and a very accessible way to paint for all. We put four colours together on a palette and then dipped the broccoli floret into them. The broccoli was then dabbed onto the paper, above a painted tree trunk, creating a mottle blossom effect.

Dorothy’s son Nigel really got into the activity, saying how lovely the paint looks by using the florets, “I enjoyed that mum” he said, “I’ll remember this the next time I eat broccoli.”
