Elvis party gets our residents all shook up
The enduring legacy of the King of Rock ’n’ Roll prompted us to stage a fun day of music, singing and dancing.
Residents and staff ‘put on their blue suede shoes’ in homage to icon Elvis Presley.
After staff decorated the home’s lounge with US-style bunting and handed out Elvis cut-out face masks, the fun got going in earnest with singalongs, dances and even some Elvis-themed cupcakes.
Companionship Team member Christina Holliday said: “The residents loved the masks. We watched some music videos of Elvis and his famous hip swings then had a lovely singalong to his most iconic songs.”
“The atmosphere was amazing. Everyone was singing and residents were tapping their feet or got up and danced.
“We decided to hold the event knowing that January is Elvis’s birthday month.”
Our Chefs baked vanilla cupcakes featuring cake toppers bearing photos of the King in portrait or performing his legendary stage moves.
Resident Audrey Stokes said: “We had a lovely afternoon and the music brought back some happy memories of the King and dancing to his records.”
Elvis is regarded as one of the most significant cultural icons of the 20th century. He was born 87 years ago in January 1935 and died aged 42 in August 1977.
