Kingfishers Boho-themed fete raises hundreds of pounds for children’s hospice

Kingfishers has raised nearly a thousand pounds for children’s hospice charity Julia’s House by staging a bohemian-style garden fete.

Residents, friends and staff at the home created the hippy vibe by making over 100 pom poms along with tassels and macramé hanging art.

As well as decorating the garden, they wore floral dresses, tops and resident-made wreaths, sold handcrafted gifts and held a raffle of donated goods.

The upshot was a total of £910.44 for Julia’s House, the home’s main nominated charity for support this year.

“It all looked so colourful and joyful when you entered the gardens,” said Companionship Team member Christina Holliday. “Our residents loved having their families and friends with them on this special summer’s day.

“There were delicious cakes made and served by our catering team and the raffle provided a lot of fun and excitement, especially for the lucky winners when the numbers were called. People were so generous with their donations.

Reeds In Harmony provided the musical entertainment at the Kingfishers fete

“As visitors went round the various stalls, they purchased knitted items, bric a brac, plants such as lilies, hydrangeas and houseplants, and homemade jams and preserves.

“At the same time, there was beautiful live music from saxophone quartet Reeds in Harmony who kept everybody swaying and smiling in their seats.

“Thanks to everybody for supporting us.”

Resident Joyce Ponsonby said: “I thoroughly enjoyed this wonderful fete. Everybody looked great and I loved sitting in the garden with all my friends enjoying the lovely music, sunshine and cake.”
