Mollie’s Poem Transformed Into Song

4 July 2025

When 96-year-old Kingfishers resident Mollie shared one of her poems with staff, she never imagined it would be set to music and performed by choirs and fellow residents.

With support from Colten Care’s Music and Arts Partner, Fiona, Mollie’s piece A Prayer was arranged into a choral work. Residents at Kingfishers in New Milton and sister home Avon Reach in Mudeford learned the words, before joining forces with the Walhampton School Chapel Choir to perform it.

For Mollie, who has been writing poetry for years, the moment was deeply meaningful. “I think it’s beautiful. It’s absolutely wonderful,” she said. “And to think of my time of life – this is the icing on the top.”

Mollie plays the piano at Kingfishers every morning, drawing an audience of fellow residents. Now, she begins and ends her daily sessions with A Prayer, ensuring her words continue to bring people together.

Companionship Team Leader at Kingfishers, Rose, said: “This project shows the power of creativity to connect generations. It was incredibly special to see Mollie’s words take on a new life through music.”
