Residents at Kingfishers care home in New Milton were treated to an uplifting afternoon of live music on Wednesday 3rd July, as children from Durlston School visited for a special outdoor “busking” session in the home’s garden.

The pupils performed a joyful mix of singalong classics including Sweet Caroline, I Do Like to Be Beside the Seaside, You Are My Sunshine, The Wellerman sea shanty, and My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean.

The performance sparked smiles, clapping, and even a few spontaneous singalongs from residents, who praised the children’s energy and confidence.

“It brought back memories of my school days and lifted all our spirits,” said resident June. “They were brilliant!”

The initiative forms part of Kingfishers’ ongoing focus on intergenerational engagement, recognising the positive impact of shared experiences between residents and young people.

“Our residents really light up during visits like these,” said Companion Team Leader Rose. “It’s wonderful to see the power of music and youth in bringing people together across generations.”

The visit concluded with light refreshments and a warm round of applause for the pupils, who clearly enjoyed the chance to connect with an appreciative audience. Staff at Kingfishers extended their thanks to Durlston School for a visit that was as meaningful as it was memorable.
