Kingfishers Brings A Taste Of Mexico To Summer BBQ

28 August 2025

Residents, staff, families and friends at Kingfishers in New Milton embraced the flavours and spirit of Mexico with a themed summer BBQ in the home’s garden.

Bright bunting and colourful table settings helped set the scene, while the festivities began with resident Mollie playing the piano, followed by a sombrero-shaped piñata — handmade by residents in a craft session — which took some determined effort to break open and release the sweets inside.

Live music came from local performer Mark Bussell on keyboard, providing the soundtrack as everyone enjoyed a freshly prepared BBQ with a Mexican twist. The menu included sizzling beef tacos, zesty salads, and churros for dessert — all prepared by Kingfishers’ chefs.

The event also featured a raffle and sales of CDs recorded by Mollie, with proceeds helping to raise over £200 for New Milton Baptist Church.

Rose, Companionship Team Leader at Kingfishers, said: “It was a wonderful day full of music, laughter and great food. Everyone entered into the spirit of the Mexican theme, and it was lovely to see so many families and friends coming together with our residents to enjoy it.”

One relative summed up the day in a message of thanks to the team, praising the decorations, themed food, and live music, and describing the celebration as “a real success.”
