Residents Take the Helm on Poole Harbour Day Out

A group of residents from Colten Care’s Kingfishers home enjoyed a memorable afternoon on the water this week, taking part in a scenic boat trip around Poole Harbour.
The excursion was organised in partnership with the Friends of Dolphin charity, which provides accessible boating experiences for older people and those with mobility challenges.
The trip was arranged as part of the home’s ongoing “wish initiative,” which focuses on helping residents fulfil meaningful personal goals.
Among those on board was resident Gill, who had expressed a wish for a peaceful boat ride. “What a relaxing afternoon,” she said as the boat made its way across the calm harbour waters.

Fellow resident Alan also had a special moment, taking the opportunity to steer the boat during part of the journey. “It was a truly wonderful experience,” he said, thanking the skipper, crew and volunteers for making his long-held wish a reality.
They were joined by residents Averil, Brian, and Trevor, who enjoyed the views, warm sunshine and sea air on what proved to be a calm and uplifting outing.
Companionship Team Leader Rose Arcellana said the experience had been one to remember.

“It’s always a pleasure to help residents reconnect with places and experiences that mean something to them,” she said.

“The Friends of Dolphin team were fantastic, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to share such a special day on the water.”
