Bulb Planting

As the weather turns autumnal, so do our Kingfishers gardening club displays, but we also look ahead to spring. On Thursday a good crowd gathered to chat about ornamental gourds and then pot up spring flowering bulbs. Gourds are attractively coloured but not very edible members of the squash family. We then talked about bulbs and how they store energy so they can live through harsh conditions. Each resident picked their favourites and planted them in a pot ready for spring. June’s tulips were arranged ever so neatly in grid formation although she wasn’t happy about putting her hyacinth in the dark! A steady line of smiling residents leaving with attached pots suggested a successful afternoon on a miserable day.
