Open Garden Event
On July 15th, we hosted an Open Garden event at Kingfishers Care Home.
Despite the windy weather, we were fortunate that the rain stayed away and the sun graced us with its presence for most of the day. The event attracted a steady stream of visitors, including neighbors, family, and friends who came to support us.
Volunteers John and Christine, representing Julia’s House, organised a teddy tombola, which proved to be a highlight for our residents. Rita Mills exclaimed, “Oh, isn’t this fun!” as she won two teddies out of three tickets.
As guests strolled through the garden, they admired our new pond featuring a Copper Kingfisher sculpture. A left turn led them past the apple tree and toward an impressive owl carving nestled in the border. Further along, they discovered our greenhouse and vegetable garden. The lavender walk added a touch of beauty before returning to the patio, where the flowers and roses were in full bloom.
In the main lounge, Julietta served tea, coffee, squash, and an assortment of delectable cakes expertly made by our chef, James. Resident Terry Brown bestowed the name “King” upon the Copper Kingfisher in the garden.
At 3pm, we held a raffle with fabulous prizes generously sourced by Tracy, our customer advisor, including breakfast tickets for Chewton Glen, Hurst Castle, Lord Bute, Morrisons vouchers, various cakes, and two bottles of spirits. The highlight of the raffle was a Wheelbarrow filled with an array of alcoholic beverages, which was won by Colin Hayley with ticket number pink 137. Many of our residents were fortunate enough to win prizes, adding to their happiness.
We were thrilled to welcome around 80 guests to our garden event and even more delighted to announce that we raised an impressive amount of over £800.00 for our chosen charity, Julia’s House.
