Care home salutes community volunteers

1 May 2025

Linden House dedicated dementia care home in Lymington welcomed the local branch of the Royal British Legion this week for a heartfelt “Thank You” event, recognising the invaluable contributions of volunteers and staff who support the charity throughout the year.

Held in the home’s sunlit conservatory, the occasion served as a gesture of appreciation for those involved in fundraising efforts and the much-loved tradition of poppy knitting. The handmade poppies are a familiar sight each November, forming the centrepiece of the displays at St Thomas’s Church during Remembrance commemorations.

Sian Harris, Companionship Team Leader at Linden House, said: “We’ve built a really strong relationship with the Lymington branch of the RBL over the years.

Our residents have taken part in knitting poppies and attending Legion events, and in turn, the RBL has been a great support to us. It felt only fitting to host this celebration and welcome them into our home.”

Guests were treated to an impressive buffet laid on by Linden’s in-house chef, with a selection of savoury and sweet treats earning glowing praise. One attendee described the spread simply as “outstanding.”

With the 80th anniversary of VE Day just around the corner, Linden House is already preparing for an afternoon tea celebration next week, which will be held at the home between 3.00pm and 4.30pm. Guests will be treated to cakes and other goods made by the home chef.

The home’s website reads: ‘Whether you’re visiting a loved one, exploring care options, or simply want to celebrate this historic occasion, everyone is welcome.’
