Linden House Residents Hand Out Forget-Me-Nots for Alzheimer’s Day

28 September 2025

Residents from Linden House dementia care home in Lymington marked World Alzheimer’s Day by heading out onto the high street to hand out handmade forget-me-not brooches.

The forget-me-not flower is a symbol of dementia, and the residents, accompanied by team members Lin and Freya, were proud to share them with members of the public. Liz, Pam and Jane enjoyed chatting to shoppers in the autumn sunshine as they handed out the brooches, made by team member Lin.

The gesture resonated strongly with some people they met, particularly those who had loved ones affected by Alzheimer’s. Several passers-by expressed their appreciation, saying the brooches had made their day.

For residents, the activity was an uplifting opportunity to connect with the wider community, engage in meaningful conversations and raise awareness of dementia.

Companionship Team Leader Sian said:

“It was a wonderful way for our residents to feel included and purposeful, while also sparking important conversations about dementia. Getting out into the high street helps boost mood, trigger memories and reduce feelings of isolation – it’s a simple act that can make a big difference.”
