Childhood Memories

With a strong wind blowing and grey skies looming what better way to while away the afternoon than reminiscing about days spent at the seaside.

So, we gathered sand, shells, windmills, balls, bats in fact anything that reminded us of the seaside and met in the lounge. During the afternoon we reminisced about visits to the beach with families, how we loathed a picnic because of the sand and always opted for the traditional fish and chips, eaten out of newspaper and of course a cup of tea. 99 ice creams, candy floss, the stick of rock, donkey rides along the beach and let’s not forget dad’s knotted handkerchief used as a sunhat. When we’d had a paddle, built sandcastles topped with flags and windmills, and surrounded by a moat filled with sea water it was time to visit the funfair. After much discussion, the most popular ride was the dodgems or as we preferred to call them bumper cars, when most of the occupants were told not to bump but dodge but of course nobody took any notice.
