Christmas Creative Writing

23 November 2023

On a dreary and overcast afternoon, members of our Creative Writing Group gathered in the Malt Hall to brainstorm ideas for a Christmas poem.

During afternoon tea, a myriad of ideas was exchanged, leading to extensive deliberations. We are delighted to share the final poem we crafted.

We sincerely hope you take as much pleasure in reading it as we did in composing it:

Christmas Traditions

Our Christmas tree stands in the hall

Covered in tinsel and lights

Over our heads it jangles quite merrily

With brightly wrapped parcels beneath.

The robin sings a merry tune

Feathers puffed up, full of Christmas pud

Sitting on a snowy branch

As snow flutters silently.

The post box stands full

With mouth wide open

Covered in snow

Waiting for the postman.

The snowman standing tall

Wearing hat, scarf, and gloves

A robin perched upon his head

Whilst snow falls silently.

Mince pies hot from the oven

Chestnuts roasting on the fire

Turkey with all the trimmings

And grandma’s Christmas pudding.

Snow falling, sleigh bells calling

Santa flying high as he races across the sky

Landing on the roof, slipping down the chimney

Delivering Christmas presents for one and all.
