Ladies Day at Ascot

25 June 2023

This afternoon, with the sun shining high in the sky and a gentle breeze carrying the lovely scent of newly planted lavender, we gathered to watch the first race.

All the ladies wore specially decorated hats crafted for this occasion, while the men decided to wear straw boaters, not wanting to be outdone.

Excitement and anticipation filled the air as the horses lined up for the first race of the day. Lesley, riding Crazy Horse, took a slow start but quickly picked up speed, crossing the finishing post to a loud round of applause.

After enjoying a glass of sparkling wine and delicious scones with jam and cream, the second race began. Elaine, on Soxy Brown, thundered down the course and raced past the finishing post, eliciting enthusiastic applause.

Elaine was overjoyed and exclaimed, “I didn’t believe we could do it!”

The final race of the afternoon was the Gold Cup, and remarkably, all six horses finished with very little distance between them, except for one. Alan, riding The Hunter, triumphantly crossed the finish line, bringing delight and cheers from the lively audience. Chris presented Alan with a gold medal, to which Alan responded, “Well, I never! I did it!”

At the end of the afternoon, everyone left the racetrack feeling tired but exhilarated, eagerly looking forward to the next meeting, whenever it may be.
