We would like to reassure families about the issue of so-called ‘hidden fees’ in the care home sector.
While naturally we can’t speak for other operators, we can confidently say that Colten Care has an open and transparent charging policy and nothing should ever be a surprise.
The government has responded to a report by the Competition and Markets Authority, which found that some operators continue to charge fees after a resident has passed away and their room has been handed back.
That is absolutely not the policy at Colten Care.
Neither is the practice of charging large upfront fees for deposits or maintenance contributions, both of which the CMA also found happening elsewhere.
As care needs change we always aim to have an honest and open conversation with families about the reason why a fee change may be required. We will never simply put up the fee with immediate effect without letting a family know why and when. Also we only have three fee bands – Residential, Assisted Care and Nursing. We believe it is important to have a simple fee structure that is transparent and has no hidden charges or extras.
Moving to a care home is an important, often highly emotive, life decision and we always want to be as open and transparent as possible about all the terms and conditions that apply.
That is why we have posted a set of 20 frequently asked questions about paying for care, together with our answers, at http://www.coltencare.co.uk/care-home-information/funding.
If you would like to discuss in person any aspect of paying for care, we invite you to contact any of our Home Managers.
