Newstone House Chef Jack Wood Secures Spot in National Final of Prestigious Care Catering Competition

3 July 2025

There was cause for celebration at Newstone House this week as Head Chef Jack Wood was named one of two finalists from the South East regional heat of the National Association of Care Catering’s (NACC) Care Chef of the Year competition.

Competing against eight other talented chefs, Jack impressed judges with his creative, nutritionally balanced dishes — all prepared under pressure in just 90 minutes. He will now represent Newstone House and Colten Care in the national final this October.

Joining him in the final is fellow Colten chef Lorna Parsons, with both earning the top two spots in what’s considered the most competitive regional heat in the country.

Reflecting on the experience, Jack said:

“It was a tough round to compete in, with some top-quality chefs putting out incredible dishes. After all our hard work and practice, it’s all paid off. Both Lorna and I were smiling from ear to ear after hearing we’d made it through. Bring on October.”

The competition, run annually by the NACC, celebrates culinary excellence in care homes, recognising the importance of delicious, nutritious food in supporting residents’ health and wellbeing.

Jack’s success is a proud moment for the whole team at Newstone House. His dedication to providing residents with thoughtfully prepared, nourishing meals is clear to all who dine here.

Colten Care’s Head of Hospitality Richard Pearshouse praised both finalists for embodying the company’s core values throughout the day.

“Not only did Jack and Lorna produce beautifully presented, nutritious dishes under pressure, but they also demonstrated professionalism, teamwork, and genuine passion for what they do,” said Richard. “They truly showcased the very best of Colten Care.”

We’ll be cheering Jack on as he prepares for the national final later this year — congratulations from everyone at Newstone House!
