Newstone House Hosts Summer Music Festival in Support of Sturminster Heritage Trust

24 July 2025

The gardens of Colten Care’s Newstone House in Sturminster Newton came alive with music, laughter and community spirit as residents, families and friends gathered for the home’s Summer Music Festival.

The afternoon opened with a lively performance from Angus Scott, who treated the crowd to much-loved songs from classic musicals. Residents and visitors joined in enthusiastically, with a prize awarded to the sharpest listener who correctly identified the most shows.

After a break for a sumptuous afternoon tea prepared by the Colten chefs, the music continued with a high-energy set from singer Tina Jay. Her renditions of 1950s and 60s hits had the whole garden moving — with residents, staff and families all finding their own way to dance along.

Festival-goers also browsed a selection of local arts and crafts stalls and took part in a popular ‘trash or treasure’ hunt. Adding to the atmosphere, staff dressed in colourful vintage-inspired outfits, with the ‘Pink Ladies’ serving tea in true retro style.

The Mayor of Sturminster Newton joined the festivities, along with members of the Sturminster Heritage Trust, Newstone House’s chosen charity for the year. By the end of the day, the event had raised an impressive £661 for the Trust.

Companionship Team Leader Shelby said: “It was a wonderful day filled with music, dancing and plenty of smiles. The support from our local community was fantastic, and we’re so pleased to have raised funds for such an important local charity.”
