Whist Wednesday

2 October 2024

A group of residents sit around a table, each holding a handful of playing cards. A Companion leans in towards one of the players.

It was a quiet afternoon, so Steven suggested we whip out the deck of cards for some fun and games.

We started off with ‘Knock Out Whist’ and then we progressed into ‘Whist’, working in pairs: ladies versus gentlemen. The game ended in a draw, so then we played ‘Whist with No Trumps’ to determine the winners, which was the gentlemen.

Intrigued by our tournament, others to want to join in, so we moved onto Rummy.

The residents really enjoyed playing cards and the afternoon brought back lots of memories from their younger years. Everyone was so drawn in by the games that they wanted to get involved themselves and carers and companions buddied up with the residents to help them win.
