Admiral Nursing support

Dementia can bring questions at different stages. Changes in behaviour, uncertainty about medication, questions around nutrition, or simply wanting reassurance about how best to approach visits can leave families unsure what to do next.

Colten Care dementia homes are supported by an in-house Admiral Nurse, working in partnership with Dementia UK. This provides access to dedicated dementia nursing expertise alongside the day-to-day care already in place within each home.

Clinical expertise focused on dementia

What an Admiral Nurse does

An Admiral Nurse is a registered nurse specialising in dementia care. Their role is to support people living with dementia, families and care teams by providing expert insight and practical advice as dementia changes over time.

This may include:

  • Reviewing care plans where needs or behaviours have changed
  • Advising on medication considerations alongside GPs and nursing teams
  • Supporting nutrition and hydration decisions
  • Helping families understand patterns in behaviour
  • Offering guidance on how visits can remain positive and comfortable

The Admiral Nurse works alongside the home’s leadership and nursing teams, ensuring advice is grounded in the person’s daily experience and current health needs.

Practical guidance at different stages

Families are supported day to day by the team within the home. Admiral Nurse input builds on that foundation, offering deeper dementia nursing insight when it would be helpful.
