Rarely a day goes by without the care sector being in the news, sadly not always for the right reasons. As in any walk of life, there are ‘bad apples.’ The danger is that those companies and homes tar the whole care sector. That’s why independent verification is so important when it comes to choosing a care home for a loved one or, indeed, yourself.
Colten Care is different to many companies operating in the care sector.
Despite our size – we have 20 homes across the South – we remain at heart a family owned business with no external shareholders. That means we take a long-term view, putting care before profit.
All our residential and nursing homes inspected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) have been rated as good or outstanding. No other group on the South Coast has achieved that and very few nationally.
At the same time the independent website carehome.co.uk has rated Colten Care 9.8 out of ten as the average across ALL our homes. That puts us as the top care home provider in the UK with six homes or more.
Professionals who visit our homes rate us highly. In a survey of 171 professionals, 99 per cent said they would personally recommend a Colten Care home, 99 per cent said that the nurses had good clinical knowledge and 99 per cent said that residents were treated with respect and dignity.
Our residents – and their health and happiness – is at the centre of everything we do.
Our annual feedback survey, which involves residents and their families, is an important indication of how we’re measuring up to our own exacting standards.
This year the survey saw an increase in overall ratings. 93 per cent of our residents rated their overall quality of care as excellent or good and in our dementia communities, 97 per cent of families rated the overall quality of care as excellent or good.
Both scores exceeded last year’s results and are a testimony to our continued focus on listening to what our residents and families want and acting on this feedback.
