International Picnic Day celebration a hit at Poole care home

2 June 2025

Residents at The Aldbury care home in Poole marked International Picnic Day in joyful style, enjoying an afternoon of sunshine, music, and traditional fare in the home’s garden and summer house.

The event brought together residents, companions, staff, and visiting family members, many of whom embraced the occasion by dressing for the weather and the festivities.

With homemade lemonade and dandelion and burdock on offer, alongside a spread of classic picnic favourites including salmon and tomato sandwiches, sausage rolls, quiche, and crisps, the atmosphere was relaxed and sociable.

Resident Tony Husband said: “The food was nice – the companions did well with the support of the team today. Thank you very much to our chefs.” Fellow resident Terry added, “Good starter for the season! Let’s have another picnic again soon!”

Among the guests were several family members who made the afternoon even more special. Resident Chris’s partner Steve dressed up for the occasion. Stella’s daughter and her husband also enjoyed spending time outdoors, making the most of the warm weather and easy-going atmosphere.

The event concluded with a musical performance by local entertainer Debbie, who played both piano and accordion. Residents Elizabeth and Linda joined in for a singalong, harmonising with Debbie and helping to round off the day on a high note.

Companion Melissa Siat said: “It was lovely to see everyone enjoying themselves and connecting with each other. Events like these are so valuable—not just for the fun and food, but for the social interaction. It means a great deal to our residents to be able to spend time outdoors with friends and family, especially in such a cheerful setting.”

The celebration was widely praised by all who attended, with many already looking forward to the next community picnic at The Aldbury.
