Coronation Celebrations

The Aldbury celebrated the crowning of Prince Charles with a joyous and festive event.
Residents, staff, and visitors all joined in the fun to make this day a memorable and charitable occasion. The Companion Team worked diligently behind the scenes, alongside the residents, to create a party filled with history and patriotism. Our garden and home were adorned with traditional red, white, and blue decorations.
Companion Cara came up with a wonderful idea of designing a heart-shaped flower bed using 40 begonias. It serves as a royal tribute to King Charles and was adorned with Lily of the Valley flowers, which happen to be Prince Charles’ favourite. Brett, our talented gardener, suggested labelling it “King Charles III” using pebbles collected from the garden. Residents enthusiastically coloured the pebbles. Additionally, we created a Throne adorned with each national flower, including the English Rose, Irish Shamrock, Welsh Daffodil, and Scottish Thistle. Scottish resident Jean Sandoe took great pride in placing the Scottish Thistle on the crown. She remarked how wonderful it was to decorate the throne with all the national flowers, especially her beloved Scottish Thistle. English resident Elizabeth Kay was equally proud to place the English Rose and graciously waved from the throne.
To add to the festivities, residents designed the British Flag using garden stones from our courtyards. Frank skilfully spray-painted the white sections, while the rest were beautifully hand-painted by residents.
During the event, we also raised approximately £100 for the Dementia Awareness charity and Little Lives children’s charity. We sold tea served in The Aldbury’s finest China tea set, along with fairy cakes that contained hidden prizes. Congratulations to HCA Shirley Addenbrook for winning the £10.00 Costa voucher.
As a final touch of fun, we engaged in a delightful activity of throwing wet sponges at our chosen staff members, Dave Austin (Senior Administrator) and Sam Reid (Home Manager). They were such good sports!
Brian, one of our residents, couldn’t wait to participate and demonstrated impressive aim. Even Pip convinced her husband Bob to join in the fun. Tina’s granddaughter took it to the next level by throwing an entire bucket of water! Yes, everyone got thoroughly soaked. Tina’s family expressed their love for attending all of The Aldbury’s events and eagerly looked forward to the next one.
We were entertained by Jewel Harmony, allowing us to dance, boogie, and sing along to the lively music. HCA Alice won the “Where’s Charley” game, where we hid cardboard pictures of King Charles throughout the home and garden. “I love a good party and a little dance outside,” exclaimed Jean Sandoe.
Strawberries and cream were served with a glass of bubbly to toast the impending crowning of King Charles the following day. A MASSIVE thank you to our Home Manager, HCA’s, Nurses, Kitchen Staff, and Housekeeping teams for making the Royal Cuppa a successful and enjoyable event! The after-party continued with residents Beryl Spaulding, Brian Hayles, Joyce Holden, Pip Smith, Bob Smith, Abdul “Hobi” Sabih, and their relatives singing “God Save The King!”
God Save The King!
