Celebrating International Men’s Day
International Men’s Day (IMD) is a global holiday celebrated annually on November 19th
Our Companion Brett dressed up as a Big Bear and handed different hats for our male residents to wear on their Special Day. Peter chose to wear the policeman hat while Frank & Brian opted for a Cowboy Hat. Residents Hobi, Frank, Valerie, Joyce, Brian and Peter were escorted to the Garden’s Winter Café on a beautiful sunny morning. Companion Melissa read out some fun facts and history about International Men’s Day. Brett had it all set up in the Winter Cafe for residents to sand and paint our garden birdboxes. The Men did not want to wear any gloves. Frank emphasized by saying” We don’t need any gloves, we want to feel the wood”! Companion Melissa handed out a Car Matching Activity for all: Name the vehicle. Matching activities are also ideal for people living with dementia. Showing familiar images like cars can lead to reminiscing and conversation. A Cheese & Wine evening ended this memorable day.
As Robert Louis Stevenson greatly quoted: “That man is a success who has lived well, laughed often and loved much”
Happy International Men’s Day to all our Men!
