Garden Walks & Gardening Club

1 February 2023

It was a nice sunny day on the last day of January.

Our residents enjoyed a garden walk to the Summerhouse where our first Garden club of 2023 took place. Resident Jeanette, was very chuffed to find the first snowdrops and crocuses of the year. While Elizabeth started singing Red Robin. Joyce pointed out that the Camellia buds would be opening anytime soon. Our Gardener Brett set up the Summerhouse for us with Aloe Vera plants that had got a bit chilled over the cold winter. Residents all agreed that the time had come to revive them by splitting the pups (off-shoots) and trimming dead leaves etc then to re-pot into medium-sized pots. We looked at the plants and their beneficial aspects including as an after-sun moisturiser, in reducing the appearance of blemishes and wrinkles, also as an air purifier. Valerie and Iris both enjoyed rubbing the fresh Aloe Vera gel in their hands. Iris, Jeanette, John, and Valerie put on their aprons and gardening gloves and got stuck in. With advice from Pip and clean-up duties down to Hobi we had a great afternoon. Hopefully, we can sell some and raise some money for ‘Little Lives UK’, our home’s nominated charity or 2023. All in all, we had an active, purposeful, sensory, and fun day in the garden!
