Magic Moments

19 August 2023

Retro Rita entertained us at The Aldbury with her magic moments set.

She sang songs from the 1940’s to 1950’s. Residents joined her in singing songs by artists like Frank Sinatra, Elvis, Doris Day and Connie Francis. The favourite song that everyone sang along to was The Everly Brothers ‘Bye, Bye Love’. The first song to get everyone up and dancing was ‘Heartbeat’ by Buddy Holly. Marion danced with Rita herself, Jeanette and Margaret danced with companion Cara, whilst companion team leader Sue spun Gwen’s wheelchair around on the dance floor as she bopped her shoulders along to the beat. Husband and wife of 72 years, Val & Bill, held hands and chair danced together. During Nina Simone’s ‘My Baby Just Cares For Me’, Val got up and did little ballroom quicksteps to the rhythm whilst supporting herself on the back of a chair, making Iris get up and dance using her rollator. Everyone agreed what a great way to start the day that was, “That was a good dance”, said Sue. “Not half” replied Jeanette. “That was super” said Patricia to Rita. Even family members were coming up to say how lovely it was to see their relatives singing and dancing. “That was brilliant, really lovely to see mum enjoying herself, thank you”,  said Joan’s daughter. “That was great, well done girls” exclaimed Maurice’s wife. We all agreed we couldn’t wait to have Retro Rita perform again.
