Poetry Reading & Writing
During our poetry corner session, we had a wonderful idea.
We wanted to express ourselves like poets, so we decided to write our very own poem. Poetry is a popular activity here at The Aldbury, enjoyed by all residents. It’s a beautiful way to reminisce and share positive experiences.
To start, we took inspiration from our favourite poems, such as ‘I wandered lonely as a cloud’ by William Wordsworth and ‘If’ by Rudyard Kipling. Valerie shared that ‘I wandered lonely as a cloud’ was her favourite poem from school. She even recited it during exams and classes. Her teacher used to joke that maybe she should learn another poem.
Finding inspiration for our own poems was a bit challenging, so we decided to build upon the beloved “Roses Are Red” verse. Val and Bill wrote:
Roses are red, Violets are blue, You are an angel, And I love you.
Brenda exclaimed, “Isn’t that wonderful!” We all had a great time during our cultural morning, and we agreed that reading poems was easier than writing them.
It was a lovely experience that brought us joy and creativity.
