Sensory Hour
Today, residents enjoyed making salt dough, which is made with one cup of flour, and half a cup of salt and quarter of a cup of water.
Once all mixed together, it becomes a dough and then we start having fun! Residents really enjoyed exploring the touch, smell, and the visual parts of the activity, they also enjoyed the social time they spent together, there was lots of chatting throughout the session.
We were talking about the feel of the dough, Jeanette made a snail and Audrey made tarts, she even rolled out ball shapes and put them on top. “Don’t they look pretty, nice enough to eat” exclaimed Audrey!
Salt Dough is a popular activity for residents living with dementia. The art of salt dough dates back to Ancient Egyptian times too. Salt and flour were the most common for stuffs available to the Egyptians as bread was the stable diet of most Egyptians.
