Colten Induction Academy

Whether you’re new to care and just starting out, or have a wealth of experience in the care sector, the Colten Induction Academy has been developed to provide you the very best start in your new role with us, equipping you with essential skills and training ahead of your arrival in your new role.

Starting With A Warm Welcome

We understand that starting a new job can be exciting but also daunting. That’s why we offer an initial week-long program, known as the Induction Academy, which is designed to help you settle in and learn more about our values and expectations.

The Academy was set up as a direct response to feedback from colleagues on how to improve the induction experience. The Academy sets out what people’s induction and probation will be, and what Colten Care does to support them as they start and progress their careers.

During this time, you’ll be welcomed into our organisation and introduced to our culture of providing exceptional care to our residents. You’ll also learn about what to expect in your first few days of work and how we can help you build and tailor your skills to Colten Care.

The Induction Academy is also a great opportunity to connect with fellow new recruits who may be starting in different clinical or non-clinical roles. Our sessions are designed to promote knowledge sharing and encourage our collective body of knowledge to grow.

“For me it was an excellent experience. I was able to meet so many other people, not just on the clinical side but in housekeeping, companionship and other roles. Every day we looked at a different subject and I came away with a lot of learning.” – H Baines, Registered Nurse at Newstone House

On-The-Job Learning

Our Induction Academy starts with an initial week of learning in a central environment, where you will learn about our values, expectations, and what to expect in your first few days of work.

After the initial week, you’ll dive right into intensive on-the-job learning and get the chance to shadow someone experienced in their role, allowing you to practice the day-to-day skills needed to hit the ground running and get to know the residents.

Ongoing Support and Development

At Colten Care, we believe in supporting our new starters to ensure they hit the ground running and have the best start in their careers. That’s why we offer a probation period of 12 weeks, during which all new starters wear a pale blue polo top to remind us all that they are new to Colten Care and may need extra time and support.

But that’s just the beginning. You can continue to build your skills and progress your career with the support of your line manager, culminating in an in-home celebration ceremony and presentation of certificate.

We believe that support and development opportunities are key to enabling people to start well and stay feeling fulfilled. By investing in our people, we ultimately support our residents’ care, which is at the heart of everything we do.
