Eco Friendly Bird Feeders

Eco Friendly Bird Feeders

At Canford Chase we have many visiting animals visit us. These include birds, squirrels. butterflies and bees. Recently the squirrels were seen removing and running away with one of the new squirrel proof bird feeders and hidden it somewhere. Tracey our Gardner has spent time looking and purchasing replacements. Meaning our feathered friends have missed out recently. We took to the drawing board and looked at various ways to make or display seed which is more sustainable and also eco-friendly. A plan was formulated and with the help of a few hands we made the first batch of eco friendly bird feeders. Using apples and oranges we sliced them in to slices and coated with peanut butter on one side. This was then dipped into a wild bird seed mix and a hole was put through the threat and some string to hang them up. Helping to reduce the minimal fruit waste from the kitchen even more. Once they were hung, we noticed many of the honeybees made a stop before heading off to collect pollen along the way, later in the afternoon the butterflies were also seen stopping by. Bees and butterflies also use fruit as a source of fluid intake as well as water to help them along the way. It was decided to watch this experiment over the next week and decide if this is the best way or back to the drawing board to formulate the next experiment.
