Here at Braemar Lodge, we wholeheartedly got behind the Caring Without Plastic scheme. We began by appointing two enthusiastic champions, Mikey and Martin, and had our first meeting on 31st May, where we shared ideas and started a suggestions file to be kept at reception. A few days later, we talked to residents about refraining from using plastic bin liners in the waste bins in the bedrooms and bathrooms. We trialled this with feedback and immediately saved the planet 108 plastic bags a day - that’s nearly 40,000 a year from just one care home!
Over the summer, we instigated and trialled various ideas put forward by our residents and staff. On 29thAugust, we held our first recycling committee meeting with a group of residents. Mikey updated us all with what is currently being done. One resident said:
“Gosh, I don’t think there is much more we could recycle!”
On 18thSeptember, we held our Green Day to celebrate what we have achieved so far. We are always looking for more ideas so if you have any ideas or suggestions which could help us in our plastic-free drive, please do get in touch. Read more about the initiative here
