Spreading a little cheer

2 April 2024

We recently visited the Poole Food Bank located at St James Church Centre, Church Street Poole.

Poole Food Bank is fondly known as Jimmys, places like this play a vital role in helping people to access nutritional foods, toiletries and much more.

At Canford we enjoy supporting local projects and enjoying the community links these build. Many families or individuals may experience food poverty at some point in their life, and school holidays can be an especially hard time for families who are experiencing difficulties with the rising cost of living.

Canford Chase residents and staff made thirty packed lunches which were hand delivered to the centre. As soon as we arrived staff were on hand to welcome us in with a cup of tea and a chat, and we spent time chatting with Ian Stoney (Manger), Alan Purchase and the volunteers at the centre who kindly showed us around.

The centre has much to offer from food supplies to help with everyday life. The team are compassionate, and it was clear to see while we were there that visitors to the food bank are welcomed with warmth, compassion and always an ear to listen!

Our visit to the centre helped us to learn much more than we already knew about food banks and upon returning to the home, we discussed with other residents everything we learnt about and the wonderful work they are doing within the community.
