Romanian Egg Decorating

8 April 2024

Our lovely HCA Julian gave up his day off to become a Red Top on Monday to help show the residents how to decorate and dye eggs traditionally as would happen in Romania.

Julian told us that his mum had taught him this. Then the residents thought it was an April fool’s day joke when we got out, ladies’ tights, white eggs, red and white onion, and food colouring.

They soon became fascinated as to how they were going to turn out. We put the eggs in water, rolled them in the onion leaves which had been chopped and wrapped in the tights that had been cut into pockets.

The red onion acted as a dye while they were simmering and with the help of some food colouring, the result was brilliant, and the residents were extremely impressed!
