Armchair Travel to the Netherlands

14 April 2023

This afternoon, the residents of Avon Reach hopped onto their flying armchairs once again to visit the beautiful Netherlands!

This was our first excursion outside of the UK, and as they entered the TV Lounge, traditional Dutch accordion music greeted them. They were all excited about what they might see, with many hoping for tulips and clogs!

As expected, vases of tulips were placed at the front of the room, along with flags and pictures showcasing some of the incredible places to visit. We began with a lively rendition of Tulips from Amsterdam, followed by a film about the Keukenhof Gardens. Visitors from all over the world (and Mudeford!) come to witness tulips planted in various patterns.

We also sampled ‘chocomel,’ a chocolate-milk blend that was absolutely delicious! After a tour of the ten most popular places to visit, we learned about the traditional handmade clogs and watched some clog dancing, which was incredibly noisy!

After some coffee and stroopwaffels, we enjoyed an elegant Andre Rieu concert featuring some graceful waltzing before returning home for supper.

In the photo, you can see our lovely Joan holding a picture from Keukenhof Garden and the chocomel carton. Although Joan didn’t drink it all… honestly.
